What the 5G Future of Concerts Means for Networks: 1623 Farnam VP Discusses with Telecom Ramblings

2022-10-04T15:42:19-05:00

Game engines such as Fortnite and Minecraft launched massive, interactive virtual concerts over the past few years, bringing the music industry to the next level. What do live shows and XR technology's future look like for those attending a concert? And what does that future mean for those bringing 5G to the edge? Technology is quickly changing how listeners experience live concerts with immersive screens, XR, hologram, and projection systems that can amp up augmented reality for a new generation of concert attendees. For genuinely interactive concert experiences, these applications demand expectations for real-time data speed that are typically handled at the edge. In addition, shows will be enhanced by [...]

Unleashing the Full Value of Next-Gen IT: The Key to it All

2022-08-03T11:47:19-05:00

As rapid, multi-industry advances reshape the way our world communicates, operates, educates and finds entertainment, technologies like AI, IoT, VR and a whole lot of other acronyms have taken the world by storm. However, as we look to truly harness the power of these technologies and adapt them to a dynamic world, the edge data center remains king.  Edge data centers have been a much-discussed facet of IT due to their importance in getting the right levels of latency and speed for tomorrow’s fast-paced, data-intensive applications — but not all edge data centers are created equal. That’s because not all edge data centers have data gravity.  Many may know data [...]

5G: Catalyzing Humanity’s Newest Revolution

2022-05-09T16:09:39-05:00

In the span of human existence and evolution, there always comes a time when we bring about major leaps forward in terms of how our species lives, thrives, and interacts with both its surroundings and itself.  The agricultural revolutions first allowed our nomadic ancestors to become settled and helped our populations grow due to reliable food sources, then enhanced farming techniques spurred our numbers further and helped us more efficiently cultivate our Earth. Then there are the industrial revolutions, which helped us increase our productivity and carved our map of urban centers where populations were highest. These also helped streamline our methods of living, offering humankind greater ease while shifting [...]

Liquid Cooling – It’s Not Just for Hyperscalers Anymore

2022-04-26T13:51:48-05:00

In the two-part series for the publication EdgeIR, Linn Gowen, vice president of business development at 1623 Farnam, begins by explaining how edge data centers could benefit from adopting liquid cooling as an efficient, sustainable alternative to traditional air cooling. The problem, as Linn points out, is that some risk-averse edge data centers have been slow to adopt liquid cooling. The prevailing paradigm, he notes, has been that “liquid cooling was only for hyperscale facilities that needed to fit more density into a smaller space.” But Linn points out that there is one pressing reason why edge centers should consider liquid cooling. Liquid cooling is much more efficient than air cooling. [...]
