1623 Farnam President Todd Cushing and Greg Elliott, vice president of business development, took a few moments out of their busy meeting schedule at International Telecoms Week 2022 to catch up with Jaymie Scotto Cutaia of JSA TV. After recapping an eventful 2021 that saw the remodeling of 1623’s 9-story, 76,000 square-foot network-neutral edge data center in Omaha, Nebraska, with new power and cooling, as well as a building boom among hyperscalers wanting to increase their presence in Omaha’s thriving connectivity hub, Todd and Bill look forward to continued growth in 2022 and beyond.

Todd notes the recent announcement that Google is building a new data center in the Omaha area has already brought more connectivity and peering opportunities to the region in general, and to 1623 Farnam in particular.

“We’ve got lots of new activity, lots of new carriers, a lot of interconnection happening, more and eyeballs and more interconnection for every client cabinet in the facility, so just a lot of excitement, a lot of growth.” – Todd Cushing, President, 1623 Farnam.

Omaha is located at the geographic center of the U.S., and 1623 is rapidly becoming a critical crossroads for the nation’s digital traffic. In just the past two months, Google upgraded its 1623 port from 40G to 100G and Akamai Technologies, a leading provider of cloud services, expanded its presence at 1623 from a single 40G port to two 100G ports. In January, Arelion, the company offering the top-ranked global internet backbone, expanded its network capacity and capabilities at 1623. In March, 1623 welcomed Subspace, an innovative, global, private network enabling users to optimize voice, video, gaming, and other real-time applications through intelligent routing systems.

Todd and Greg also discuss two exciting networking opportunities on the 1623 schedule this year. On July 26, 1623 will host the inaugural Midwest Peering Summit at the Stoney Creek Hotel in Des Moines, Iowa. Meet Me in the Middle, 1623’s annual gathering for customers or anyone just wanting to learn more about will take place in Omaha Sept. 22. You can sign up for event updates HERE.
