What You Need to Know
1623 Farnam followed a unique path into the Carrier Hotel / Data Center industry. Formerly owned by a Real Estate Trust, our company was formed as a result of an investment in the early 1980s. While looking for commercial properties to purchase, the Trust acquired several multi-tenant buildings in Nebraska. One of the Omaha structures, 1623 Farnam Street was conveniently located near the original east to west Internet fiber backbone. In addition, the structure was located within a uniquely redundant power grid which resulted in only a single power outage in over 25 years.
These features attracted telecommunications companies to install network infrastructure within the building to support interconnections with other carriers. Over the years, more and more carriers secured space in the facility and the Carrier Hotel was formed.
To organize the interconnectivity process, and to create an environment where businesses can leverage the available connectivity, Nebraska Colocation Centers was established in 2011. This shared data center environment was established to provide the basis for expansion of the infrastructure throughout the Omaha facility. Today, the facility has customers of all sizes and industries that manage local, regional, national and international networks.
In 2016, with ample space and power, and the demand growing for customizable space within shared infrastructure settings, Nebraska Data Centers moved into the wholesale data center real estate market.
News Press & Gazette Company purchased Nebraska Data Centers in November 2018 and renamed it 1623 Farnam, LLC. There is tremendous opportunity at 1623 Farnam with the expansive fiber connectivity, a highly strategic location and a world class carrier neutral hotel and this investment has brought about exciting expansion plans, ultimately converting the facility into a world-class carrier neutral hotel in downtown Omaha.
